Dear Friends,
Marbles Reunited is a campaigning organisation promoting the case for the return of the Parthenon Sculptures to Greece.
Formerly known as Parthenon 2004, the change of name, updated website and the relaunch event at the House of Commons on March marks the stepping up of the campaign in anticipation of the opening of the New Acropolis Museum in Athens.
Some say that the reunification an impossible cause. But is it?
Did you know that the reunification has already started? Last September a fragment from the Parthenon’s north frieze, was returned from the University of Heidelberg, back to Greece.
This symbolic act signalled the beginning of the reunification.
Recently, the director of the British Museum, Neil MacGregor, stated, for the first time that under certain circumstances it is possible to loan the Sculptures to Greece. The current position of Greece talks for a long term loan.
Further to this, in the past few months, a very large number of artefacts held in museums as well as in private collections have been returned.
Attitudes are changing.
Marbles Reunited seeking to promote the case of the reunification has stepped up the campaign by staging high profile events; supplying speakers for interest groups; monitoring developments in the law and museum practice; monitoring and writing to the media and producing publicity material.
If you agree with the reunification of the Parthenon Sculptures please consider joining as members to support, and why not, to help in their efforts and activities. Membership is open to all who agree with the objectives of Marbles Reunited and are willing to pay the minimum annual subscription fee of £10.
